Every Pet Is A
Hi, my name is Jackie Kuyvenhoven, and this is my story of how I became a grooming business owner.
In 2002, I was laid off from my job at a sign company and decided to volunteer at a nearby grooming salon in my neighborhood, located in the Merritton district of St. Catharines. I instantly fell in love with the job and discovered I had a real knack for it. I had always known I wanted to work with animals and this was my calling. I was hired on at first as a bather and assistant, and after a few short summer months I was in full training, learning how to be a professional groomer.
I learned the trade fairly quickly, and before long was managing the salon and soon it became my dream to own my own salon one day – and today, 13 years later my dream has come true.
I don’t want anybody to feel as though they aren’t welcome to walk right in and check it all out. Clients are also welcome to stay with their pet while they are being groomed. Not all dogs do well in a grooming situation, and some can be very scared or nervous due to separation or cage anxiety, aggression issues, age, or they simply don’t do well without their parents! That being said, there has never been a dog I haven’t been able to work with. All pets need grooming, even the ones that have one of these issues, and they are all welcome here.
I created Jackie’s V.I.P. Grooming based on what my expectations would be if I were to drop off my own pets to be groomed. The design is all open concept, so when anyone walks into the salon they see is everything! The loud room, (where all the barkers sit and wait their turn) is at the front door, the grooming room (where all the action takes place) is next, the bathing room after that, and the place my dogs hang out is at the end of the hall.
You will also see my pink poodle hanging out with me at the salon! Yes, I said pink! Oatmeal was rescued from a puppy mill. When I first met her she was a very terrified, dirty, and emaciated little dog, but it was love at first sight. My heart broke for this poor little dog (whose name at the time was “Cage 3″) and I took her into my home determined for her to see a better world.
Today, Oatmeal is a very outgoing and fun-loving poodle who is guaranteed to make you smile when she greets you with bark and a wag of her fluffy pink tail!
My passion for your “very important pet” will definitely keep you coming back.
I also work with cats!
Which is not offered at all grooming salons, but we enjoy giving cats a day of pampering too!
